UNC School of Law is proud to announce that Professor Beth Posner ’97 received the 2023 Sharon L. Corbitt Award from the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence. This prestigious award recognizes Posner’s exceptional service and leadership in improving the legal response to domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Posner, a clinical professor at Carolina Law, has made domestic violence, sexual assault, family law, and Title IX her life’s work, both in practice and in teaching. Her distinguished legal career includes overseeing statewide domestic violence initiatives and practicing criminal defense. Since joining the Carolina Law faculty in 2013, Posner has continued this important work through her teaching and clinic work.
She founded and teaches the Domestic and Sexual Violence Clinic, where students gain hands-on experience representing domestic violence survivors in protection order hearings and complainants in Title IX proceedings. Posner also developed and teaches a seminar on trauma-informed lawyering. She advises several student groups focused on issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and family law.
Posner is a nationally recognized expert and trainer on domestic and sexual violence issues.
In announcing Posner’s award, the ABA recognized her “exceptional service and leadership in efforts to improve the legal response to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and/or stalking.” Carolina Law could not be more proud to count Posner among our distinguished faculty. Her passion for justice and dedication to serving survivors is an inspiration to our community.
