UNC School of Law welcomed several new staff members in 2025, strengthening our team across advancement, student services, and clinical programs. These professionals bring diverse experiences and a shared commitment to supporting our students, faculty, and alumni.
Advancement

Michael Briggs, Director of Development
Michael builds meaningful connections with alumni and donors to advance Carolina Law’s mission of excellence and accessibility. He brings strong nonprofit leadership experience, having previously served as executive director and chief development officer at The Chalmers Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and as executive director of Third Millennium Ministries. He earned his bachelor’s from Wake Forest University and a master’s from Covenant Theological Seminary and serves on the Wake Forest University Alumni Council and the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Triad Chapter.

Jeanette Evans, Director of Development for Major Gifts
Jeanette leads fundraising and advancement strategies to support UNC School of Law’s top priorities. Before joining Carolina Law, she served as director of development for the School of Business at North Carolina Central University, where she secured more than $1.2 million in philanthropic support within her first eight months and established eight new endowments. She previously spent eight years in university advancement at North Carolina A&T University, where she played a key role in the $85 million Power of Do Capital Campaign.

Brian Stern, Director of Development for Alumni and Community Engagement
Brian builds philanthropic relationships and strengthens community connections at UNC School of Law. Before joining Carolina Law, he led alumni engagement strategy at NYU Wagner and managed events and volunteer boards at NYU Stern. His diverse background also includes working at an anti-hunger nonprofit, fostering public-private partnerships for New York City Parks and teaching high school in Japan. He holds an Executive Master of Public Administration from NYU Wagner and a bachelor’s in Organizational Studies from the University of Michigan.
Career Development Office

Peyton Wojcik, Student Engagement Manager
Peyton supports the Career Development Office and its mission to help students explore legal careers. She earned her bachelor’s in English & Comparative Literature from UNC-Chapel Hill with a concentration in writing, editing, and digital publishing. Before moving to the Career Development Office, she worked as a faculty administrative support specialist, where she copy edited legal textbooks and journal articles and coordinated events from law school luncheons to legal symposiums.
Clinical Programs

Lauren Brasil, Staff Attorney
Lauren is a staff attorney in Clinical Programs. She previously served as co-director and managing attorney with Legal Aid of North Carolina’s Fair Housing Project, where she represented victims of housing discrimination in administrative proceedings and state and federal court. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Lehigh University and her J.D. from Temple University School of Law.

Rubi Estrada, Bilingual Program Assistant
Rubi supports clinic students and faculty with case management, client communication, translation, and interpretation in Clinical Programs. Before joining Carolina Law, she served as community systems manager at OASIS Inc. in Avery and Watauga Counties. She was the first student from Avery High School to earn the Roan Scholars award at East Tennessee State University, where she worked to increase Latino student involvement in school activities.
Faculty Administrative Support

Stephanie Metzen, Faculty Administrative Support Specialist
Stephanie supports law school faculty with document editing, appointment scheduling, and financial reporting. She came to Carolina Law from UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she worked in genomics research and administrative operations. She holds a master’s in Global Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill, where her capstone research focused on asylum adjudications for unaccompanied minors from Honduras.
Student Development Office

Jessie DeHainaut, Business Services Coordinator
Jessie works with student leaders in the Student Development Office, helping them manage finances, coordinate events, make purchases, and book travel. She keeps the business side of student life running smoothly for law school organizations and student activities.
