Dismantling Barriers: Rebecca Williford ’09 Leads the Charge at Disability Rights Advocates

Rebecca Williford's ’09 journey to becoming president and CEO of Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) began unexpectedly during her teenage years in Rocky Mount, N.C. A year-round competitive swimmer, Williford's life took a dramatic turn when she developed a neurological disorder called dysautonomia. Suddenly, she found herself navigating a world of medical appointments, hospitalization, and missed school days, eventually leading to her using a wheelchair.

Carolina Law’s Center for Banking and Finance Hosts Successful 2024 Banking Institute, Awards $100,000 in Scholarships

UNC School of Law's Center for Banking and Finance hosted the 2024 Banking Institute on March 27-28 at the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte, N.C. The annual event, approved for 8.25 hours of general continuing legal education by the North Carolina State Bar, attracted 176 attendees. Since its inception in 1997, the Banking Institute brings together industry professionals, legal experts, government regulators, and students to discuss the most pressing issues in the banking and finance sector.

Tübingen Exchange Program Offers Invaluable Cultural and Legal Education 

UNC School of Law's partnership with the University of Tübingen in Germany has provided an incredible opportunity for both American and German law students to engage in a cultural exchange while gaining valuable legal knowledge. The program, which began in the summer of 2019, has since grown into a two-week summer program in Tübingen and a two-week visit by German students to Chapel Hill in February.

Law Librarian Ellie Campbell Wins Prestigious Paul Ganz Publication Award

The UNC School of Law is proud to announce that Ellie Campbell, clinical associate professor of law and reference librarian at the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library, has been awarded the prestigious Paul Ganz Publication Award by the American Association of Law Libraries RIPS-SIS Grants and Awards Committee for her article, “Critical Legal Research, Artificial Intelligence, and Systemic Racism: Teaching with Jim Crow Text-Mining.”

This year, members of the Class of 2024 received the Bane Outstanding Writing Award, the Coates Rule of Law Essay Award, the Winston Crisp Award for Student Leadership, the Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA) Outstanding Student Award, and the Jerry B. and Callie Irene Stone Constitutional Law Award.
